Well, hi, hello, how are you? How nice to be in at the beginning, I can see this site going places once people get to hear about it!
For me, the internet is my only connection with the miniature world ~ I now live in deepest rural western France, where my hobby is looked on by the locals a yet another of those weird mental aberrations of the crazee Eenglish ~ they are fascinated by the size (1/12th for me) but I can see the "But WHY?" look come over their faces!
Although I can find polyclay and air-dry clay in the larger towns around here, there is a distinct lack of miniatures throughout France - Paris seems well stocked, but that’s a little too far for browsing or window-shopping!
I am so very lucky in that I am retired and so have all the time in the world for my "bits" (a Georgian mansion - massive; a Tudor - manageable; a small 1900-ish wedding shop; a leetle French cafe/bistro, all built and ready to go, and a 1920's semi, still in kit form.)
So ~ I’m looking forward to meeting other mini-maniacs - roll-up, roll-up!

Hello yourself!!

I live on the west coast of Scotland and have finally achieved a lifelong ambition to own my own dolls house. After a childhood of coveting my cousin's beautiful house (built by her Dad) and having two strapping boys I realised that if i wanted a dollshouse I would have to get it myself. So, on the event of one of those horrible birthdays ending with '0', I finally became the proud owner of my very own eight room beauty.

It is in the final construction stage - with the stairs proving to be a bit tricky - but I am having so much fun. My family think I am mad but are strangely very keen to help with projects! I think that trying to do most of the furnishings myself is going to be the best bit - I have discovered that wallpaper with the newest designs which look like hessian are pefect for carpet and the mosaic tiles make really good flagstone floors - best of all its free from your local DIY store as a sample. I have also made a working chandelier out of an old crystal necklace and am delighted with the result.

I would love to hear from anyone else who has the strange but consuming passion for miniatures and wants to share tips, or even just say hello to a fellow obssessive.

Mugsygill (in a somewhat cloudy western Scotland)

Hello, I am mad about minis, I sell miniatures that I make online on Etsy, I have joined this site because I am interested in starting some dolls house clubs here in England, as we don't have any near me & wondered if anyone could tell me anything about what goes on when everyone meets up, do you have a demo each time?? any advice would be good!
